Captain's Prize: Martin Slattery's Captain's Prize qualifier will take place on Saturday, Sunday and Monday 12th, 13th and 14th August. The play-off will take place on Sunday 20th August. Following the presentation of prizes on 20th the draw will take place for the 50/50 and there will be music and craic to follow. More details next week.
South of Ireland: Well done to David Reddan Jnr who qualified for the matchplay stages of the South of Ireland Championship at Lahinch last week. He had rounds of 69 and 77 to qualify and won his first tie in matchplay beating Sam Murphy of Portumna but he was beaten in the following round by Paul Coughlan of Castleknock. Scott O'Brien and Jake Adler also played but didn't reach the matchplay stages.
Sports Capital and Equipment Grants: Jackie Cahill TD called out to Nenagh Golf club last week to discuss with officer holders further development plans for the club. Development is well underway after the last round of Sports Capital and Equipment Grant funding, which he successfully secured for the club. The club needs two mowers, a greens mower and a rough mower, which will cost in the region of €150,000. The maximum grant for this equipment will be €70,000. The golf academy building is nearing completion and will be open in a few weeks. The club was granted funding for this development and it will be drawn down when completed. The club will also be seeking funding under the Disability Grant. This will allow persons with disability to come to the academy and get lessons and tuition on the practice grounds. This venture is part of the club's desire to help people with disability to use the club and its facilities.
North Tipp Hospice Classic: The North Tipperary Hospice in Home Care Movement Classic will take place on this Saturday and Sunday August 5th and 6th. The format will be open champagne scramble team of four (ladies, gents or mixed) with two scores to count on each hole. Entry will be €100 per team. Special prizes for best all-ladies and visitors team not featuring in main prizes. Separate raffle on the day.There will be over €2000 in prizes. 1st prize: 4 golf bags; 2nd prize: 4 golf shoes; 3rd prize: 4 Ping mid layers; 4th prize: Titleist golf balls and numerous spot prizes. The main sponsors are Fogarty Concrete, Kellys of Fantane and Costello Oil.
50/50 Draw: Congratulations to Paul Gratton who was the winner in the July 50/50 draw held at the clubhouse on Thursday night last. He takes home €1120.
Club Singles: The Club Singles matchplay is now to the final pair. Paul Quinn will play Sean Minogue.
Club Fourball 2023: Play off the blue tees. With the handicaps the lowest player goes to zero and subtract his handicap from the other three. All matches must be completed on time – overdue matches will have both pairs disqualified. Top pair to arrange match. First round matches are now completed. Vinny's Classic: Vinny's Classic in aid of Irish Pilgrimage Trust Golf, which was postponed on Friday 14th July due to flooding on the course, has been rescheduled for Friday 11th August.,
