First tee and practice ground reminder: Members and visiting players are instructed to play from the frontal area of tee box hole number 1 where the markers are situated for health and safety reasons until further notice. Under no circumstances is any player or players to play from further back on the tee fox from the designated area. The Board of Management requests all players using the practice ground are instructed to hit golf balls from the designated area only down the field in line with the newly erected signs on the course. Where a player mishits a ball from the designated area which travels a short or long distance, they are strictly forbidden from re-hitting that ball from where it now lies due to the possibility of golf balls entering neighbouring lands. Players are not permitted to hit golf balls either back or across the practice ground for health and safety reasons. We are requesting that all players comply fully with the above regulations.
Pitch marks: It would be greatly appreciated if members would play their part in helping to continue the good work of our course staff and volunteers over the last number of months. We would appreciate if you would look after the following items when you are playing and also to remind your playing partners:
• Repair pitchmarks.
• Bring a sand bag to repair divots.
• Rake bunkers.
The greens are suffering at present from the level of play especially after sanding and this is leading to a lot of unrepaired pitch marks. If every player repairs their own pitch mark and one other, in time we will have none. It is possible that some members may not know how to repair a pitch mark or may not have been shown if they are new to the game. If this is the case, please find a brief summary below.
1. Look for a golf ball mark on the green near your ball. This would be where the ball landed.
2. Use a ball mark repair tool to fix the mark left from the ball.
3. Insert the ball repair tool into the rear/outer edge of the ball mark, with the prongs angled at 45 degrees. Gently work the turf up and back into place by gently pushing up and forward.
4. Always bring the grass to the top of the repaired area to ensure the fastest recovery.
5. Repeat step 3 around the entire ball mark as necessary.
6. Pat down the ball mark with a putter, until the mark is as smooth as the rest of the putting surface.
