New 50/50 draw Appeal: At a recent meeting of the management committee of Nenagh Golf Club, members were informed that two machinery items were urgently needed in the near future for the proper maintenance and upkeep of our course. The machinery items mentioned included a greens mower and a sand raker for bunkers. The price of this equipment will cost in the region of €100 k of which €90 k plus is the cost of the mower.
Golf members and visitors speak highly of the marvellous condition of our greens and fairways and to maintain such excellence the above machinery items have been requested by our grounds professional Mark O’Donoghue supported by the Course Sub Committee.
To offset some of the above machinery costs the proceeds of this year and future years Golf Classics will go towards the projected costs. More immediately, however, the Management Committee have given the green light to set up a new 50/50 draw which is currently running very successfully for sports clubs across the country including GAA centres, Rugby and Tennis Clubs.
The success of this draw will depend on the support and goodwill of our members who benefit from and enjoy their golf in Nenagh Golf Club. The Fund-Raising Committee who are directly responsible for organising the new 50/50 draw is making a direct and urgent appeal to members to support this new 50/50 draw.
The operational mechanics of this draw will envisage members contributing €10 a month with a single number winning opportunity while a €20 contribution will give three numbers winning opportunities. The payment system will be similar to a direct debit operation.
The Sub Committee hope to have the above draw operational very shortly and request the support of all members. To facilitate the committee in organising this draw they are appealing to members to give their names to any member of the Sub Committee or office staff. It is envisaged that the proceeds of this 50/50 draw will greatly help in financing the cost of the above machinery costs.
The new draw when fully operational will replace the present fortnightly €5 draw which was of great benefit to the club in recent years. Our thanks go to Jim Flynn, Tom Doheny and others who helped in the continuous organisation of this €5 draw over the past number of years.
As the operational and maintenance cost of machinery continues to increase on an annual basis, we hope that our members in appreciation of such costs will support not only our Golf Classic but also and more immediately our new 50/50 draw which will be launched in the immediate future.
