Captains' and Presidents' Drive-in. The much delayed Captains' Drive-in took place on Friday evening last. A large crowd saw the two captains and presidents successfully drive off the first tee to ceremonally commence their year in office but in truth they have half of year of very hard work for the club behind them. All the members present on the night showed their appreciation for their efforts on behalf of the club.
In the mixed scotch foursomes competition played after the drive-in the results were: 1st Toni Brophy and Oliver Quinn; 2nd Tony McCann and Ann Marie McCann; 3rd Paddy Heffernan and Kay Donoghue; 4th Anna Barry and Martin Barry.
Hole-in-One. Congratulations to Michael Quinlay who had an ace at the 11th hole playing in the Cavanagh Cup competition on Sunday.
Club Fourball: If you want to play in the club fourball put your names and competition fee of €20 per pair in the competition box. The draw for this competition will take place at the weekend. The club fourball organiser is Niall Murphy.
Jimmy Bruen: The Jimmy Bruen Shield team is in action on this Saturday v Charleville. They have three matches away and two at home. Their managers are Pat Foley and Liam Hogan.
Barton Shield: The Barton Shield side had a magnificent victory over All-Ireland champions Limerick in their match on Thursday. Playing away were Paul Carey and Rob Ward while Collwyn Martin and Jake Adler won at home. Their next match will be against Castletroy.
Cashman Cup: The Cashman Cup had their first match versus Castletroy on Thursday 17th was won by Nenagh on a 4 to 1 result. Three matches were played in Castletroy. Pat Hogan / David McGrath and Michael Gavin / Kevin Stritch won their matches with plenty to spare. Denis Corrigan / Billy Morgan were involved in a close match when called in. The two matches in Nenagh were close affairs but Jim Gleeson and Willie Duff won on the 17th while Noel O'Dwyer and Willie Harty were all square on the 18th when called in. The next round will see Nenagh play the winners of Ballyneety and Limerick. Well done to the team and management was Tony McCann and Michael Fitzgibbon.
Moore Cup: Our Moore Cup team had a good win over Esker Hill on Saturday by 4.5 to 2.5. Our four players playing in Esker Hill were Bernard Delahunty, Dinny Ryan, Kevin Stritch and P. J. Shananan while at home we had Billy Bourke, Willie Harty and Billy Morgan. They now proceed to play Birr away in the next round. Matt Hanly and John Hackett are the management team.
Fred Perry Cup: The Fred Perry Cup squad have their match against Rathbane on this Friday June 25 at 4.30 pm. They have three matches in Rathbane and two in Nenagh. Best of luck to the team and management team of Billy Morgan and Bernard Delahunty.
50/50 Members' Draw: The fortnightly 50/50 Members' Draw in aid of the club development fund is ongoing. In the last draw held on Friday June 18 Anna Kelly won €255 with the total pot at €505.To enter simply put €5 in the envelope supplied and place it in draw box outside the pro shop. The winner will receive 50% of the pot. The draw will take place every second Friday. The prize grows with every ticket sold. Please support. The next draw will take place on this Friday July 2.
Sympathy: The sympathy of Nenagh Golf Club is extended to the family and friends of Johnny Peters, a near neighbour and former member of the club, who died on June 9.
Outdoor Dining commenced at the club on Saturday 12th on the new decking area at the front of the club. Come out and enjoy good food and perhaps a drink on this excellent new facility
