Nenagh, the holders of the Duggan Cup, had a very narrow escape in their second round match with Birron Saturday afternoon. They needed a win on the 19th hole in Birr from Eamon Callanan and Paddy Kennedy to secure a 3-2 win. Playing in Birr were Sean McLoughlin and Willie Harty; Patsy Farrell and Dinny Ryan; Paddy Kennedy and Eamon Callanan. In action in Nenagh were Paddy Martin and Ger Clifford and Paul Moloney and Gary Howard. Well done to the team and selectors Jim Flynn and Michael Hegarty. Their third round match will be against the winners of Mountrath and The Curragh. One of the Birr team members playing in Nenagh was the two times All-Ireland medal winner for Offaly Tony McTeague.
