All-Ireland Mid Amateur: The All-Ireland Mid Amateur took place at Nenagh Golf Club on Saturday and Sunday October 3 and 4. Over 100 of the country's best amateurs over 30 years of age took part over two rounds on Saturday including our own Tony Scroope and Shane Hogan. Forty players, among them Shane Hogan, made the cut for the third round on Sunday morning. James McLoughlin from the neighbouring Portumna Golf Club won the event with rounds of 70,74 and 72. The players and GUI officials present were full of praise for the course and especially the qualify of the green. One participant was quoted was saying the greens were the best he had played on this year.
50/50 Members' Draw: The sixth fortnightly 50/50 Members' Draw in aid of the club development fund took place on Friday September 25 with Anna O'Brien winning €295. The seventh draw will take place on this Friday October 9. To enter simply put €5 in the envelope supplied and place it in draw box in the Pro Shop. The winner will receive 50% of the pot. The draw will take place every second Friday. The prize grows with every ticket sold. Please support.
Club singles final: The club singles matchplay competition (O'Keeffe Cup) is down to the final. Henry Sheehan beat Gerard Ryan while Frank Flannery lost to Oisin Butler in the semi-finals. The deadline for the final October 10.
Team of 3: It was been decided that in light of the restriction with Covid-19 that the Team of 3 competition will not take place at the club for 2020-21.
New Handicap System: A new World Handicap System (WHS) had been devised and will come into force on November 2. Everything members need to know about WHS is available at www.golfnet.ie/whs and we encourage you to access this resource. It has a Frequently Asked Questions document, presentations and the Rules of Handicapping book available for download.
